The White House Situation Room, frequently referred to as the "Sit Room" is a conference room in the basement of the White House used for intelligence and crisis management. The room is equipped with advanced communications equipment which allows the President to communicate with military advisers around the world.
A fictional Situation Room was featured prominently throughout The West Wing, with a few notable differences from its real-life counterpart. The West Wing's version of the Situation Room is quite darker and more technologically advanced than the real-life room, though, like the real room, it is located in the White House basement.
The Situation Room is highly secure, and only select individuals with special clearance are allowed entry. Generally these individuals consist of the Chief of Staff, the Vice President, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other top military and intelligence advisers.
