Roger Tribbey

Roger Tribbey was the Secretary of Agriculture selected to be absent from the State of the Union address. He gave the President a gift; the constitution translated into Latin.

Tribbey is a 1976 graduate of the University of Nebraska, where he played football. A fifth generation corn farmer, he served as President of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, as Director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture under Gov. Ben Nelson, and as Executive Director of the American Farm Bureau. During the 1998 campaign, Tribbey advised Jed Bartlet on agricultural issues. He was named Secretary of Agriculture by Bartlet on December 5, 1998, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 23, 1999.

Tribbey left the cabinet in September 2005 and returned to his family farm in Nebraska. He was the Nebrasksa Co-Chairman of Matt Santos' 2006 presidential campaign.
