General Nicholas Dwight Alexander (-present) is a fictional character played by Terry O'Quinn on the television serial drama The West Wing. He served as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2004 through the end of President Bartlet's second term in office.
Biography[]
In 2004, Alexander became Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff when Admiral Percy Fitzwallace retired. Shortly after his appointment he came to Leo McGarry to have to stop the Secretary of Defense from holding interviews for three and four star general candidates. He seems to have had great respect for Leo telling him once "I hope the President knows how lucky he is to have you." General Alexander appeared in the Situation Room less frequently during conflicts than Admiral Fitzwallace had.
