Dan Kalmbach

Joseph Dan Kalmbach was a U.S. Senator from Maryland from 1987-2005.

Kalmbach's father was a congressman from Maryland and Kalmbach spent most of his early years in Washington with his father and mother. Kalmbach graduated from Annapolis in 1962 and became a Second Lieutenant in the Marines, Kalmbach served several tours in Vietnam before retiring in 1974 with rank of Major.

In 1978, Kalmbach was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, he was re-elected in 1980, 1982, 1984. In 1986, Kalmbach was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986 and re-elected in 1992, and 1998.

Kalmbach ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2002. Kalmbach raised over 20 million dollars and was considerd a front-runner but was unable to win a single primary including his home state and was forced out of the race before Super Tuesday and endorsed Robert Ritchie.
