Bill Daniel

William Anderson Daniel (1960-) was Governor of Nebraska from 1997-2005.

Daniel was born in Iowa and spent his early years in Cedar Rapids.

Daniel moved to Nebraska in the early 1980's and began a career in business. Daniel was elected to the Nebraska States Senate in 1988, and the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992.

In 1996, Daniel was elected Governor with 61% of the vote. In 2000, he won re-election with over 70 % of the vote.

In 2002, Daniel sought the Republican presidential nomination but only succeeded in winning the North Dakota caucus. After dropping out of the race Daniel was on Governor Ritchie's shortlist for a running-mate.

Daniel retired from the Governorship in January 2005. In November 2006, Daniel was elected to the U.S. Senate with 56% of the vote. Since January, 2007, Daniel has served in the U.S. Senate and is rumored to be planning a 2010 presidential bid.
